get to know Taylor: a styled sage Q+A

This blog is turning a year old soon, and I turns out you all had some questions about the gal behind it!

I put out an IGTV video on my Instagram that answered some frequent questions from my audience. I thought I'd put some of the answers here as well! To see my video with the first half of this Q+A, follow along with me on Instagram! You can do so here.

so, let’s get into it!

Why did you decide to start a blog?

First, it combines a LOT of my passions. I love to write, style through fashion and interiors, take photos and (of course) help others. A blog was something I had been considering for a long time, and when I had friends, classmates and even college professors egging me on, I decided to give it a go! Second, I wanted to help carve out a space that I feel the internet is lacking: a place where vulnerability and difficult experiences are met head-on instead of labeled as sources for shame. I want to create the pretty-but-affirming content that me-from-the-past would have needed.

Why the name “a styled sage"?

Ultimately, it’s how I’d describe the way I want to be. I love the physical act of styling things so they’re pretty and figuring out how life should best be put together. I chose “sage" not like the herb, but like the adjective, meaning wise. Overall, the name of the blog combines the two things I tend to focus on the most: style and advice!

How old are you?

On the outside? 22. On the inside? I’m a total grandmother.

Do you have any siblings?

I have two younger sisters that I’m obsessed with. They’re pretty much my favorite people. And yes, we get along!

What interior styles are you drawn to?

If I had to classify, I would probably label my interior style as boho, with some classic midcentury vibes mixed in. I love warm woods, cozy textures and neutral colors. It’s a bit eclectic, though. I think I’ll be sharing some bedroom makeover details in an upcoming post!

What did you do in college?

I majored in professional writing (kind of like journalism), but also studied marketing communications, graphic design and theater performance. I performed in some really fun productions during my first couple years, including Into The Woods as Cinderella, where I met lots of my best friends from school. I interned during my senior year with a publishing company here in Minneapolis where I assisted in editorial work!

What is your favorite drink? (alcohol)

Haha! I’m a wine fan, but I’m not too picky. Don’t make me drink tequila though. It’s gross.

Where are your favorite places to shop?

I LOVE thrifting and about half of my wardrobe is thrifted, as are lots of my decor items. I would love to eventually check out more of the small thrift and antique shops in the Twin Cities since there are so many, but for now you need to check out these local spots. Most are doing online sales or pickup during quarantine, so I’ve linked them below:

Carousel + Folk in Minneapolis - curated thrift items, plants, home decor

Patina (multiple locations) - home decor, jewelry and gifts

I Like You (Minneapolis) & I Like You Too (St. Paul) - handmade art, jewelry, gifts

Golden Rule Gallery (Excelsior) - artwork, gifts and beauty products

What are your hobbies?

processed_20200429021119_IMG_8311 (1).jpg

Pretty much anything to do with the arts: I love painting, singing or dancing, taking photos, pretty much anything that involves the left brain. I also love gardening, but alas, with the current times I don’t know how much of that I’ll be able to help my mom with.

What are your goals, Short-term and long-term, and what do you do to track your goals?

processed_20200429023410_IMG_8358.jpg

In the short term, my goals are revolved around this blog and figuring out where I’d like it to go for the rest of the year. It’s hard to know what people need to hear right now and so I’ve been forced to re-think a lot of the content I had planned. If any of you have requests or ideas, you can always shoot me a DM on Instagram or an email through my contact page!

In the long-term, I would love to get into a more creative profession, since I feel like that’s where my talents really lie and what would fulfill me best. Whether writing, graphic designing, or even branching off into more of an entrepreneurial space, I think I’m gonna have to head in that direction. Some bloggers out there are able to turn their blog into a business, but i have to figure out where I want this to go first!

As far as goal tracking, I think having things time-blocked and deadlined is crucial for me. I try and put tangible goals onto my calendar and have visual reminders wherever I can. I think making sure things are measurable and time-sensitive is the most helpful part of goal-tracking.

Well, that’s it for right now! Don’t forget to head over to Instagram to see the questions and answers that I didn’t answer here. As always, let me know what you’d like to see. You, readers, are a pretty important part of what I do in this little corner of the internet.

Bye for now!
